Monday Mindset â Whatâs behind the door? đȘ
My buddy Joey sent me this a while back and got value so know you will too…đ
–
A few years ago, a coworker told me a short story about a king, a criminal, fear, and freedom.Â
The story really left a long-lasting impression on me.Â
In fact, I visualize the door from the story in my mind almost every single day.Â
Let me pass the story on to you â it goes like this:Â
A criminal was caught committing a crime and brought before a king for sentencing.Â
The king told him to choose between two punishments:Â
- Hanging by rope ORÂ
- Taking whatever was behind an ominous, mysterious ironclad doorÂ
Without hesitation, the criminal chose the rope. đż
The king, not shocked, mumbled âeverybody chooses the ropeâ while he ordered to have a noose put around the criminalâs neck.Â
Seeing the kingâs reaction, the criminal asked:Â
“So⊠out of curiosity, whatâs behind the door?âÂ
The king paused then said:Â
âFreedom â but everybody is so fearful of the unknown that they immediately choose the rope.âÂ
HOW TRUE! đŻ
I donât know about you, but I believe that itâs unreasonable to be completely fearlessâÂ
To reach a point in your life where you never, ever feel fear.
Life is too dynamic nowadays. đ
Situations present themselves in a flash and leave you:Â
- Fearing how your trying will end in failureÂ
- Fearing how youâre not good enoughÂ
- Fearing how your ego or reputation will be bruisedÂ
The good news is, like many emotions, I do believe fear has its laceâŠÂ
AS A TOOL.Â
You just need a strategy to face it so it doesnât completely overwhelm you.Â
If it does, youâre paralyzedâŠÂ Â
And youâll most certainly âchoose the ropeâ. Â
When Iâm facing the fear of a limiting belief, big lift, or business risk, hereâs how I prevent the overwhelm:Â
(I call it the triple B strategy!)Â
I breathe to create space between me and my fear.Â
Just a sliver of space â a moment of detachment â and, in that space, Â
I bring awareness to the gift (yes, I said gift) that this fear is presenting to me, such as:Â
- Increased brainpower to focusÂ
- Increased motivation to moveÂ
- Increased opportunity to growÂ
And then comes the hard part:Â
I barrel towards the fear. đ„
For you, it could be public speaking, joining a fitness program, launching a business, learning a new skill in a group setting, starting a difficult conversation with a coworker, ending a relationship â Â
Whatever it is, remember that fear doesnât have to confine youâŠÂ
It can be the thing that frees you. đ±
If you value freedom as much as I do, give my strategy a shot and let me know if it helps you out!Â
Hereâs to turning fears into freedom this year,
