Last week, I was in Chicago with our Mastermind group. We covered finance, sales, marketing, mindset, resilience, and leadership.
Different topics.
Different challenges.
Different solutions.
Yet as I listened to the conversations, I kept coming back to one conclusion:
Leadership sits underneath all of it.
Elon Musk often talks about first principles thinking.
As a physicist, he understands that physics is the foundational science. Chemistry is built on physics. Biology is built on chemistry.
If you understand the foundation, you can better understand everything built on top of it.
Leadership works the same way.
Your business grows or shrinks based on your leadership.
Your team rises or falls based on your leadership.
Even more importantly, your ability to lead others is largely determined by your ability to lead yourself.
In my experience, leadership of others is 80% leadership of self.
This week’s challenge is simple:
Before trying to fix a problem in your business, team, or life, ask yourself:
“How am I contributing to this situation as the leader?”
That question creates ownership.
Ownership creates growth.
And growth creates results.
After all, leadership is not built on tactics.
Leadership is built on foundations.
