[LL]: Memento Mori (USA vs Türkiye)

Hey Leader 🙌

I have a confession.

I almost talked myself out of the trip.

It turns out that Tatiana and I will watch the USA take on Türkiye at SoFi here in Los Angeles this week.

World Cup, on home soil, in my backyard.

A bucket-list moment as a lifelong fan of the “Beautiful Game”.

And I nearly passed on it.

Why?

The tickets were outrageous.

The timing was inconvenient.

I had ten reasons to wait for a more sensible year.

Then I flew home from a celebration of life in Costa Rica in April.

As I left for the airport and with the weight of the experience, my brother Barrett looked me dead in the eye and asked me to promise I would go to the game.

At that moment, it became clear.

We are promised nothing.

No second chances.

One shot.

Here is the leadership lesson.

The leaders who hesitate are not being prudent.

They are asleep.

Memento Mori, remember you will die, is not morbid.

It is the sharpest decision-making tool you own.

It cuts through “someday” and forces “now.”

I’m grateful for Barrett’s reminder, so here’s one for you.

This week, name the one yes you keep deferring.

The hard conversation.

The bold bet.

The bucket list trip.

Then go do it before the window closes.

After all, Memento Mori.

The 5 Immutable Rules of Leadership

  1. Take Extreme Ownership: Everything is your responsibility, even when it’s not your fault.
  2. Put Your Oxygen Mask On First: Lead yourself before leading others.
  3. Wield Influence Through Moral Authority: People follow who you are, not what you say.
  4. It’s Not About You, Never Was, Never Will Be: Elevate others, build legacy.
  5. Turn Adversity Into Advantage: Pain is your power, use it.
