[LL]: Humble Enough to Learn. Confident Enough to Lead.

Hey Leader 🙌

Just as the World Cup wrapped last week, I just wrapped a 12-week training challenge with a friend, HQ teammate, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master James Robinson.

He has been on the mats for nearly 15 years, will earn his black belt in March, and by any honest standard, he already fights above the rank.

Here is what those 12 weeks reminded me.

Doing hard things breaks you open in two directions at once.

You get humbled fast. I did.

Stepping in as a trained fighter, I learned quickly how much I did not know.

The mat does not care about your title, your track record, or the size of your business.

It only cares whether you show up and do the work.

But that same process handed me real confidence, the kind you cannot fake and cannot buy. It is earned rep by rep, and once you own it, no one can take it from you.

That is the dichotomy of hard things.

Anything of value challenges you, and anything that challenges you makes you both smaller and stronger in the same breath.

I have felt it lifting, traveling, building business, and now on the mat.

This is the essence of leadership.

A strong leader stays humble enough to keep learning and confident enough to keep leading.

You do not pick one.

You carry both.

These last 12 weeks were an incredible reminder and have inspired me to continue the BJJ path through a new 12-week evolution.

So this week, choose one hard thing you have been avoiding.

Step in.

Let it humble you and build you.

This is the dichotomy of leadership.

The 5 Immutable Rules of Leadership

  1. Take Extreme Ownership: Everything is your responsibility, even when it’s not your fault.
  2. Put Your Oxygen Mask On First: Lead yourself before leading others.
  3. Wield Influence Through Moral Authority: People follow who you are, not what you say.
  4. It’s Not About You, Never Was, Never Will Be: Elevate others, build legacy.
  5. Turn Adversity Into Advantage: Pain is your power, use it.
