Leadership Advice to my Former Self 150 150 Bryce Henson

Leadership Advice to my Former Self

Advice to my former self:

Rewind the clock to November 5, 2012, the day Tatiana & I launched our first Fit Body location, I would have told myself to invest & focus on developing my leadership skills.

As leadership (more than fitness/nutrition coaching) has been the biggest mover in growing my team and membership base. This is the same for our locations’ businesses as well.

Consequently and in the 10 years of study, I have developed my own leadership framework which I call the 5 C’s.

I list the 5 C’s below and over the coming weeks, will unpack them. For now, here is your high-level insight and I hope you are looking forward to the 5 weeks ahead!

The 5 C’s of Leadership

  1. Clarity
  2. Courage
  3. Connection
  4. Communication
  5. Consistency

[MM] Life lessons from 2 “strangers”

Happy Mindset Monday!

Today’s message is about love and gratitude with some life lessons that will help you on your journey. 💥

Looking at the included picture, there are no words to truly describe my deep love and gratitude for these amazing ladies.

The snap is of my mother-in-law Cristina and my dear friend Mara.

They are my 2 most notable Brazilian Portuguese teachers over the last 12 years.🙌

The picture was taken at Mara’s house in Laguna Beach 2 weeks ago, and was the first time they met.

While “strangers” their commonalities and influence in my life cannot be understated.

Both were born years before me in the same decade in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 🇧🇷

They grew up within miles of each other, in a very different place and in a very foreign land.

But similarly, they both provided me with a deep foundation for my 2nd language and deep knowledge into Brazilian culture.

And most importantly throughout my journey of learning from them both, they have become my closest friends.

They have taught me way more than a second language. They taught me about culture, perspective, and about life.

Consequently, they are “life teachers” and have become family in the process.

My call to action for you from the lessons I learned from them over the last decade..

  • Do hard things that challenge you.
  • Routinely put yourself in incredibly uncomfortable situations as this forces growth.
  • Seek monitors that have done what you want to do and gain proximity.
  • Take a deep interest in other people, cultures and backgrounds from a learning perspective.

By following this advice, my life was forever changed for the better.

And I want the same for you.

Make it a great week!

The true goal of a leader 150 150 Bryce Henson

The true goal of a leader

Simply put, to get people to do what they need to do to support the mission and team.

As when the team wins, everyone wins.

Simple but true.

My question for you..

Are you working towards getting people to support the mission and team?

If so, you are leading..

If not, get to it.

Monday Mindset: When Things Don’t Go As Planned! 👍 150 150 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: When Things Don’t Go As Planned! 👍

I received this story with a great lesson from my friend Randy recently and wanted to share to get your mind right this Monday..

The Chinese Farmer

Once upon a time, there was a Chinese farmer whose horse ran away. 🧑‍🌾

That evening, all of his neighbors came around to commiserate.

They said, “We are so sorry to hear your horse has run away. This is most unfortunate.” 🐎

The farmer said, “Maybe.”

The next day the horse came back bringing 7 wild horses with it, and in the evening everybody came back and said,

”Oh, isn’t that lucky? What a great turn of events. You now have 8 horses!”

The farmer again said, “Maybe.”

The following day his son tried to break one of the horses, and while riding it, he was thrown and broke his leg.

The neighbors then said, “Oh dear, that’s too bad ” and the farmer responded, “Maybe.”

The next day the conscription officers came around to take his son.

As in that time, they conscripted people into the army and they rejected his son because he had a broken leg.

Again all the neighbors came around and said, “Isn’t that great!”

Again, he said, “Maybe.”

The morale of the story?

The whole process of life and fitness is an integrated process of immense complexity, and it’s nearly impossible to tell whether anything that happens in it is good or bad — because you never know what will be the consequence of misfortune; or, you never know what will be the consequences of good fortune. 💪

The most important thing to do is have faith and a positive perspective that it will all work out for your good! All while keep taking action toward your health & fitness goals every day to make your life better! 💯

Make it a great week!

Decentralized Command. 150 150 Bryce Henson

Decentralized Command.

One of the most important but underutilized elements of leadership.

Meaning leaders create & support small teams of leaders who have the autonomy to make decisions to move the mission forward.

As even the best leaders can only truly invest their time and knowledge into a handful of people.

These people then lead their downline.

This is why its mission is critical to develop a team of leaders and not only followers.

As with a team of only followers, an organization cannot be truly transformational.

True execution happens when you decentralize command and empower others to lead.

Monday Mindset: 3 Nashville Takeaways.. 1024 768 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: 3 Nashville Takeaways..

Happy Monday!

Last week I returned from delivering a week-long training in Nashville Tennessee to nearly 300 attendees.🙌

The group was made up of owners, leaders, and coaches all wanting to get even better in the service of their clients, teammates, and community.⚡️

While the days were action-packed full of incredible teaching and takeaways. Here are a few that really resonated with me that will help you on your journey.👇

  • Proximity is power. When you gain more proximity to people doing well in life & with their fitness, it raises your productivity & fitness thermostat. Just as you tell your children, pick your friends wisely for the exact same reason. As when you put yourself in a room with other fit people, you will become the next fit person!
  • Growth Mindset. You are either growing or dying. That’s a tough truth but a law of nature. What we have at Fit Body is really a personal growth program packaged within a fitness & nutrition service offering. Choose growth and your life will prosper.
  • Knowledge is only potential power. While we learned, shared, and taught some amazing strategies to drive even better fitness results for our clients. My parting message was that the only true way to unlock this learning is taking action. While both are very important, action and implementation always trump knowledge collection. This is true for you with regard to your health and fitness. You know this inherently, but do you do? That’s the power of our fitness program which creates action and why hiring a coach is extremely productive.

I trust these takeaways will help you on your health and fitness journey! If so, please share it with someone in need!

Make it a great week!👊

My biggest leadership secret? 150 150 Bryce Henson

My biggest leadership secret?

The ability to lead yourself.

Sounds basic but it’s extremely true.

When you develop the ability to lead yourself by creating discipline in your life (eating well, exercising, being an early riser and overall highly dependable).

You will be able to accomplish many things from a productivity perspective as its first value point.

But much more than that, you will become a source of inspiration for others who then buy into your leadership.

Discipline is at the foundation of this which is a core value here at Fit Body..

So the more of the story and todays lesson?

If you develop the discipline and ability to lead yourself, you then can develop the ability to lead others.

But remember, it’s an internal game that starts with you and starts with discipline..

Monday Mindset: The true value of your fitness 1024 768 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: The true value of your fitness

Happy Monday! 🙌

I am very excited to be home after an action-packed trip to Nashville delivering the Fit Body Elite Training workshop for our owners and coaches in the brand. 🤗

I will share some good takeaways from the trip next week.

The best part of returning?

My wife Tatiana picked me up from LAX, with my 2 moms for the first time!

Donna whom you know as my birth mom and Cristina my Brazilian mom, who is the birth mom of Tatiana!

In fact, Saturday was the first time they had met after 12 years of Tatiana and I being together. 🥳

They both were extremely excited as you would imagine.

And to further prepare, Cristina has been taking some English lessons in anticipation of meeting Donna so that can communicate more directly. 💥

Or at least the very basics.

And I supposed their children will bridge the rest of the translation gap.

Morale of today’s story?

Your Health & Fitness is important. But not for fitness’s sake alone.

Rather, fitness gives you a baseline foundation to live a better quality of life.

To be with your family. ❤️

To travel the world and to spend time with your loved ones.

That’s what truly matters in life and the true value of fitness.

So yes, it’s important you value fitness.

But it’s most important to never forget the true gift it gives which is better quality time with your loved ones…

Make it a great week! 💪

Leadership is always the problem and always the solution. 150 150 Bryce Henson

Leadership is always the problem and always the solution.

In fact and in the words of Jocko Willink…

There are no bad teams.

Rather, just bad leaders.

That’s incredibly humbling, but also incredibly empowering.

As the greater you lead yourself, the greater you can lead others.

It starts with you.

And once you accept this very difficult reality that your current leadership is the lid on your life and our business, things become much easier.

But you must first accept the difficult fact of life that leadership is always the problem, and always the solution.

So invest in your leadership growth, and let’s get to solving.

Monday Mindset: You never know when you will need your fitness.. 150 150 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: You never know when you will need your fitness..

Happy Monday!

I’m traveling again, this time to Nashville delivering a week-long training to our owners and coaches throughout the Fit Body brand. 🤗

I return on Sunday so, in next Monday’s Mindset message, I will have some good take-aways for you so be ready!

For today, I’m still reflecting on last week. 🤔

If you remember, I took a trip to Sioux Falls to attend the Grand Opening of my dear friend and Franchise Business Coach CJ Werhkamp. CJ who was also a face of our recorded videos during COVID.

And 1 thing I left out last week was how the trip ended!

Turns out, I had a flight back to Orange County that was routed through Phoenix, AZ.

And the bustling metropolis of Sioux Falls doesn’t have many flights going out on a daily basis.. So when I found out my flight to Phoenix was going to be delayed, it looked like I was going to have to spend 6 hours in the Phoenix airport due to missing the connecting flight.

Bummer. 🙁

Although when I finally boarded the plane from Sioux Falls to Phoenix, I received an SMS notification that the Phoenix to Orange County flight was delayed. Although from the initial notification, it looked like I was still going to miss the flight by 30 minutes.

So for the first time in my traveling career, I began to hope that my connecting flight would be delayed..

When I arrived in Phoenix.. it turns out that’s exactly what happened! 😱

The only problem, my connecting flight to Orange County was in the other terminal and had only 3 minutes before the gates closed to make the distance of a 15-minute walk according to the attendant.

Now I didn’t check any baggage and only had flip flops on.

So upon exit, I went into a full court sprint mode for 5 full minutes. Yes, you know from camp, 5 minutes of 100% intensity is absolutely brutal!

When I arrived, the door has just locked by a 2 minutes. So I began to politely and urgently plead my case to the attendant to let please me on.

The attendant called the pilot on the radio and after a 15-second hesitation which seemed like an hour, she opened the gate and said “go now, hurry!” so off I went.

I made it and thank goodness! 🥳

And as it turns out, I found out later that the evening flight was canceled to Orange County. So if I didn’t make this flight, I would have been posted up in the airport for nearly 16 hours until the next day.

Moral of the story?

You never know when your fitness will come in handy.

So my message today is rather than getting fit… stay fit and your life will benefit.

You see, those burpees help after all! 😉

Especially next time you unexpectedly need to burst out in a full court 5 minutes sprint throughout an airport so you can spend more time with your family! ❤️

Make it a great week!
