Monday Mindset ā Whatās behind the door? šŖ
My buddy Joey sent me this a while back and got value so know you will too…š
–
A few years ago, a coworker told me a short story about a king, a criminal, fear, and freedom.Ā
The story really left a long-lasting impression on me.Ā
In fact, I visualize the door from the story in my mind almost every single day.Ā
Let me pass the story on to you ā it goes like this:Ā
A criminal was caught committing a crime and brought before a king for sentencing.Ā
The king told him to choose between two punishments:Ā
- Hanging by rope ORĀ
- Taking whatever was behind an ominous, mysterious ironclad doorĀ
Without hesitation, the criminal chose the rope. šæ
The king, not shocked, mumbled āeverybody chooses the ropeā while he ordered to have a noose put around the criminalās neck.Ā
Seeing the kingās reaction, the criminal asked:Ā
“So⦠out of curiosity, whatās behind the door?āĀ
The king paused then said:Ā
āFreedom ā but everybody is so fearful of the unknown that they immediately choose the rope.āĀ
HOW TRUE! šÆ
I donāt know about you, but I believe that itās unreasonable to be completely fearlessāĀ
To reach a point in your life where you never, ever feel fear.
Life is too dynamic nowadays. š
Situations present themselves in a flash and leave you:Ā
- Fearing how your trying will end in failureĀ
- Fearing how youāre not good enoughĀ
- Fearing how your ego or reputation will be bruisedĀ
The good news is, like many emotions, I do believe fear has its laceā¦Ā
AS A TOOL.Ā
You just need a strategy to face it so it doesnāt completely overwhelm you.Ā
If it does, youāre paralyzedā¦Ā Ā
And youāll most certainlyĀ āchoose the ropeā.Ā Ā
When Iām facing the fear of a limiting belief, big lift, or business risk, hereās how I prevent the overwhelm:Ā
(I call it the triple B strategy!)Ā
I breathe to create space between me and my fear.Ā
Just a sliver of space ā a moment of detachment ā and, in that space,Ā Ā
I bring awareness to the gift (yes, I said gift) that this fear is presenting to me, such as:Ā
- Increased brainpower to focusĀ
- Increased motivation to moveĀ
- Increased opportunity to growĀ
And then comes the hard part:Ā
I barrel towards the fear. š„
For you, it could be public speaking, joining a fitness program, launching a business, learning a new skill in a group setting, starting a difficult conversation with a coworker, ending a relationship āĀ Ā
Whatever it is, remember that fear doesnāt have to confine youā¦Ā
It can be the thing that frees you. š±
If you value freedom as much as I do, give my strategy a shot and let me know if it helps you out!Ā
Hereās to turning fears into freedom this year,
