Hey Leader 🙌
I flew home from our World Conference last weekend with one thought I could not shake.
Everyone leads.
Here is what most people get wrong.Â
They treat leadership like a promotion.Â
Something handed to you.
Something that begins the day your name moves up a line on the org chart.
However, here is the reality:
Leadership is not a position.
It is a behavior.Â
And the people waiting on the title are usually the last ones to build the skill.
Strong organizations are not built on one leader at the top.Â
They are built on leaders developing leaders, in every direction.Â
Down the chain, to the people you are responsible for.Â
Up the chain, to the people you report to.Â
Laterally, to peers who owe you nothing.Â
And before any of that, yourself.Â
Self-leadership is the price of admission for leading anyone else.
This Week’s Action
Name the direction you are not leading in right now.Â
For most high performers, it is up or lateral, because those require influence rather than authority.Â
Take one action there this week.
Bring your lead a solution before he/she brings you a problem. Give a peer the lesson you learned the hard way.
Your title got you into the room.Â
Your leadership decides what happens once you are there.
Just remember: Everyone leads.

The 5 Immutable Rules of Leadership
- Take Extreme Ownership: Everything is your responsibility, even when it’s not your fault.
- Put Your Oxygen Mask On First: Lead yourself before leading others.
- Wield Influence Through Moral Authority: People follow who you are, not what you say.
- It’s Not About You, Never Was, Never Will Be: Elevate others, build legacy.
- Turn Adversity Into Advantage: Pain is your power, use it.
