Candidly, that used to be me.
But here’s the truth…
Your team wants you to succeed.
Your clients want you to deliver.
Your audience wants you to show up strong.
They’re not rooting against you; they’re rooting for you.
And when you internalize this?
Everything changes.
Your tone softens.
Your energy opens up.
Your communication becomes more natural, more human, more real.
You stop performing… and start connecting.
It reminds me of a lesson I learned years ago when I finally asked for help with my fitness from my first coach, Adam.
His response?
“I thought you’d never ask.”
That moment stuck with me.
Because it reinforced this idea:
People are often waiting for you to step forward.
As a leader, when you carry the belief that people want you to win, you create a collaborative environment, not a defensive one.
And that’s where influence lives.
So here’s your move this week:
Before your next meeting, conversation, or presentation, pause and remind yourself:
They want me to win.
Then walk in like it.
And watch what happens.
