[LL]: The Sunday I Did Not Want to Show Up

Hey Leader 🙌

I crossed a lifelong dream off the list this past week.

Watching the USA men’s national team in a World Cup match at SoFi Stadium with Tatiana was everything I hoped it would be and more.

The experience had some drama with some drunk Turkish fans, which is the setup for an amazing World Conference keynote, so get ready!

However, I didn’t get to bed until 1 am.

Then I worked two full days.

By Sunday morning, I was wrecked.

I did not want to go to jiu-jitsu.

Not even a little.

But I went anyway.

James put me through the kind of training that leaves a mark.

It was brutal.

And I am glad I did every second of it, as I left feeling the session like a million bucks.

Here is the lesson:

Leadership is not built in the moments you feel motivated.

It is built in the moments you feel like quitting and move anyway.

That is true when you lead yourself, and it is true when you lead others who are watching what you tolerate in yourself.

This week, find the thing you are avoiding.

The hard conversation, the workout, the decision.

Do it anyway.

PS. Pick the one thing you least want to do this week and do it first. That is where your next level lives.

The 5 Immutable Rules of Leadership

  1. Take Extreme Ownership: Everything is your responsibility, even when it’s not your fault.
  2. Put Your Oxygen Mask On First: Lead yourself before leading others.
  3. Wield Influence Through Moral Authority: People follow who you are, not what you say.
  4. It’s Not About You, Never Was, Never Will Be: Elevate others, build legacy.
  5. Turn Adversity Into Advantage: Pain is your power, use it.
