Hey Leader 🙌
NASA just sent four astronauts toward the International Space Station on October 1.
Incredible!
But here’s what most people miss:
The launch wasn’t the impressive part.
The preparation was.
Before ignition, NASA and SpaceX completed a formal readiness review.
Systems checked.
Risks assessed.
Teams aligned.
Only then were they cleared to launch.
This reinforces one of my core leadership beliefs:
The separation is in the preparation.
From the outside, great leaders can look fast.
Decisive.
Almost instinctive.
But what looks like speed in the moment is usually preparation behind the scenes.
My friend and former NASA astronaut Susan Kilrain, who will speak at our Fit Body annual conference in 2027, knows this better than most.
You don’t prepare for pressure when the pressure arrives.
You prepare BEFORE it arrives.
That’s your leadership challenge this week:
Identify one important meeting, decision, or conversation coming up.
Then prepare for it before you need to perform.
Because adversity will come.
Pressure will come.
Your preparation determines whether it becomes an obstacle or an advantage.
That’s also the message behind my new book, Turn Adversity Into Advantage, launching October 20th.
Make it a GREAT week!

The 5 Immutable Rules of Leadership
- Take Extreme Ownership: Everything is your responsibility, even when it’s not your fault.
- Put Your Oxygen Mask On First: Lead yourself before leading others.
- Wield Influence Through Moral Authority: People follow who you are, not what you say.
- It’s Not About You, Never Was, Never Will Be: Elevate others, build legacy.
- Turn Adversity Into Advantage: Pain is your power; use it.
