Happy Monday Mindset!
Memento Mori.
It is Latin for one simple reminder:
Remember, you will die.
Sounds dark.
It is actually liberating.
Last week, the World Cup kicked off here in North America.
As a lifelong soccer fan, this is a dream come true.
Even crazier?
The U.S. National Team is playing two matches just 30 minutes from my house in Los Angeles.
For months, I dragged my feet on buying tickets.
The cost felt high.
There were plenty of reasons to wait.
Then last week in Chicago, while teaching our Mastermind members, I shared a lesson from my upcoming book, Turn Adversity Into Advantage, on the concept of Memento Mori.
As Barrett and I wrapped up the event and headed to the airport, he challenged me.
“Promise me you’ll get the tickets.”
That conversation hit me.
The truth is this opportunity will likely never come again.
A World Cup in my backyard.
An experience shared with my wife Tatiana, whose Brazilian roots and love of soccer played a huge role in bringing us together.
So I bought the tickets for the June 25 showdown of USA vs Turkey.
Here is the mindset lesson:
When you bring your mortality closer, the trivial falls away.
The distractions disappear.
The priorities become obvious.
Memento Mori is not about death.
It is about living.
Part of that process is remembering that time is finite.
When you do, you stop majoring in minor things and start saying yes to what truly matters.
This week, ask yourself:
“What am I delaying that I would regret missing?”
Then take action.
Because one day, the clock runs out.
