Monday Mindset – Comfort Zones

Family!
Happy Monday!

There’s a chance you have seen me on film..

I certainly didn’t realize it when I started camp back in 2012, but it is a skill that is required to amply my mission of Inspiring Fitness and Changing Lives Every Day.

So have had to learn and continue to do so..

But trust me and to the contrary to what my better half Tatiana will tell you, it’s incredibly challenging and uncomfortable for me.

In fact, it seems like every time I film, I tense up, get all nervous and palms & back start sweating.

And if you have ever done a Facebook live or been on film yourself, you know exactly I mean. As it’s all fun and games until the camera gets out, and then BOOM!

Awkward city here we come!!

So when my pitch was accepted to have our CEO shoot a thank you video for our FBBC clients helping us raise and donate well over $100,000 in 2020 across all our brand, I was PUMPED!

But then you guessed it… just after our CEO approved it thinking it was a great idea in concept, he then asked me to be the face of the film and shoot it in the studio with clients.

Fun times.

So we scheduled a time for our media team to film in Yorba Linda last Tuesday after the 5:15am session. As I have some close relationships in that session so thought the fun vibes would help the shoot.

So I typed up the script, rehearsed and then off we went.

When I arrived at boot camp with the camera crew about 15 minutes before the session ended, Coach Jenn was bringing the fire on the mic per usual.

Session then ended and she asked any volunteers to stay in the background for the 3 minute shot and do some jumping jacks so the film has a high energy effect!

Then Mayn, our camera man hit it….. “lights, camera, action”.

And no matter how many times you rehearse which I certainly did, when the set goes silent, the camera is right in your face and all eyes are on you, the sweat starts rolling off your pores..

And while my goal was to hit in 1 take…

I wasn’t successful in that goal as it took me 3 takes with some loving heckling from my friends as I missed the line 2 times mid jumping jacks!

Fun times.

And for as much it was incredibly uncomfortable, and that little voice in my head was telling me how much I was going to mess up, and that I should really just stop the shoot….

I ended up pressing forward, getting through it and getting the shot successfully! And on top of it all, it was an incredible growth moment!

As that uncomfortable feeling you get in your stomach… is just a sign of where your current growth ends, and where you must continue to press forward to be a more evolved human.

So today’s lesson is this…

Maybe the thought of passing on the daily cocktail is really uncomfortable and something “I cannot live without.”

Maybe you haven’t worked out in YEARS and just the thought of boot camp completely scares you.

Or you have been coming a few times per week, but deep down you know you’ve been going through the motions and can crank it up a few notches..

Regardless, as humans we all have comfort zones that are made to be broken which unlock your growth potential!

Yes, easier said than done, but if you want to live a happy and successful life, you better get comfortable being uncomfortable. As those zones are meant to be broken as growth is on the other side!!

Have a GREAT Monday!

-Coach Bryce

PS Stay tuned for the video I will be sharing in the next month!!
Monday Mindset – Silver Linings 519 418 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset – Silver Linings

Family!

I cannot believe March is here and is nearly a year since COVID began to wreak havoc on our world, which got me reflecting…

And having come down with it 2 months ago, like many of our community & world, I know first-hand what a nasty bug it is which has caused so much heartache and loss from a health and physical perspective.

It’s also crushed or severely impacted many small businesses inclusive of ours, which the economic effects have not fully been seen yet and will last for years to come.

And while no one wishes it happened, there’s always good in the bad if you choose to look for it.

Here are 3 of my silver linings.

Value of our health

While there’s been much fear put out and some for good reason as the bug has killed 500,000 in the US.  The positive side is this has really opened our consciousness to putting value on our health.

In fact, Elon Musk, the current richest man in the world, has nothing without his health.

Furthermore, the CDC reports that at the current moment, nearly 45% of our country is statistically obese. Which means 147 MILLION people are on pace to die prematurely in our country because of it.

Really makes you think huh?

While that might sound grim, the figure above isn’t some invisible boogeyman. In fact, that’s why the media barely covers it.

The SILVER LINING is that it’s 100% preventable and completely within your control.

Exercise 3+ times per week with muscle building activity, eat nutrient dense foods, hydrate and limit/eliminate simple sugars.

Problem solved and 147 Million lives saved & extended.

My sincere hope, which would be an incredibly large positive, is that COVID wakes our country up to the value of taking care of ourselves so we are healthy enough to fight disease and live healthier.

Leadership

The pandemic has shown both plenty of examples good and bad leadership.

From the bad perspective, it’s not hard to look at the news to see many acts of incredulous hypocrisy from our state officials including our very own governor.

Do what I say and not what I do” type of mentality.

While it enraged many people and rightfully so.

There’s a lesson…

Be the type of person who walks your talk and with a high degree of morale authority..

As the reality is you can tell your kids/family to “eat your veggies” until your blue in the face, but if you don’t actually eat your veggies, they won’t. They are watching.

Sometimes bad examples prove as silver linings on what type of behavior to avoid.

Value of time

As I was heading down to Brazil to visit Tatiana’s family for Christmas to make good on a promise I made to her mom in 2012, I was rerouted away from a blizzard in NYC and through Mexico City on a 12 hour unexpected layover, ouch!

But I decided to make a bad situation good and took the opportunity to hire a driver on the cheap for a 6 hour tour, as I had never been there before.

And at one of the famous churches near downtown, and with everyone masked up, it dawned on me how precious life and time is.

From California, to Brazil, to New York, to Mexico City and beyond..

The entire human race battling together. Facing adversity and completely vulnerable.  And we know this deep down to be true, but the visual in a foreign land, was a stark reminder that we are promised nothing.

Today is all we have. In the face of crisis, only the important things in life surface.

So your call to action today is to live with urgency, take chances, be kind and love. And for goodness sake, LIVE as if your life depends on it. Because in the end, it does.

Of course, there are many more silver linings of the past year but a few that were top of mind. I would love to hear yours.

Make it a GREAT Monday and week!

Monday Mindset – my ineffective leadership… 1024 526 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset – my ineffective leadership…

Family!

“If you can look your teammate in the eye, and not give them the feedback to get them better, that is a sign of ineffective leadership.”

I was reminded of the same quote I read nearly 4 years ago fresh off completing a 3 day leadership and coaching workshop this past weekend.

I had read it when attending a Fit Body Conference. And upon seeing it, it stopped me dead in my tracks like a lightning bolt through my body.

As being honest with myself, at that moment I knew I was an ineffective leader for my team..

And while difficult medicine to swallow at the time…

It  was the medicine I needed that served as the catalyst to becoming a student of leadership.

Shortly thereafter upon returning home from the conference, I connected with my team to tell them of my shortcomings. And that I was determined to become better in the service of the team and you, our valued clients.

It wasn’t easy, and it was and still is a slow process but I then began asking for feedback, investing into myself, investing in my team and providing clearer expectations and feedback around those expectations.

Fast forward 4 years, no doubt this is a reason that our program has exponentially increased in value.

This is also a big reason we have been able to keep and grow AMAZING coaches for multiple years since Coach Alicia (Yorba Linda) and Coach Jake (Mission Viejo) who just celebrated their 2 and 5 year anniversaries respectively.

They are absolutely incredible coaches and even better people!

And what has been shown to me is that the more I invest in myself and my team, the better your experience becomes and the more results we can deliver for you and our community.

That’s a lot of pressure, but pressure I am called to accept.

And while I still have a very long way to go in becoming the leader I want to be, I can tell you for certain if I hadn’t continued to invest in myself and team, in addition to your support which we are eternally grateful for…

We would have suffered the same fate as many other gyms in 2020.

Therefore, my message today is that in life, you reap what you sow.

 So let me ask you..

Are you investing in yourself on a daily basis?

Are you eating well?

Are you staying hydrated and moving your body with intense exercise at least 3 times per week?

If you are not, you are on the path I was headed down which is….

Being an ineffective leader for your family (aka your team) who is counting on you..

That’s tough medicine to swallow, and sent with love, care and concern but is also the truth.

So in the spirit of providing feedback, that is my hope and promise to you.

If you need help, if you need support, if you need accountability, and if you need feedback regarding any aspect of your fitness, my team and I are here for you.

Make it a GREAT Monday!

Monday Mindset – Early to Bed…

Family!

I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day weekend!

Today I wanted to share some wisdom that has impacted me in the hopes it does the same for you.

Sometimes the biggest truths are the most basic ones.

I read the quote below toward the end of college which stayed with me until I began implementing roughly 10 years ago.

This in mind and to be clear, this doesn’t guarantee success as there are exceptions to every rule.

But considering human nature & by and large, it will increase the probability of it. As I can tell you anecdotally, it has held true and acting on this has changed my life & allowed me to serve you and my team at a much higher level.

Monday Mindset – Chasing Greatness 150 150 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset – Chasing Greatness

Family!

Last night’s super bowl game was one for the ages. Truthfully, a bit boring considering the landside.

But no matter if you love or hate Tom Brady, you have to tip your hat for winning his 7th Super Bowl out of 10 appearances.

Barely believable!!!

And for some perspective in the case you don’t follow professional football, the average NFL player statistically doesn’t even make it to 1 super bowl game.

So this is consistency at it’s finest, and pure greatness if I have ever seen it!

Now with greatness on the brain today, it got me inspired to recognize greatness in all aspects of daily life.

And I didn’t have to look hard to pull up one amazing example of this at a local level; my friends and Mission Viejo campers Josh and Beth Knoke.

To give some insight, Beth crossed her 1,500 session last month and combined they are knocking on the door of 3,000 sessions total which is a record for our locations!

Now please keep in mind, Josh and Beth were not always this committed. In fact they were very overweight and had big health concerns when starting our program.

But they stuck with it, kept showing up and became extremely consistent in the process. And while it didn’t happen overnight, they have lost a combined 175lbs with our program!!

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!

So while greatness is on the mind today, I wanted to share their story in the hopes that you too will consistently chase greatness!

PS Congrats Josh and Beth and thank you for being an example of GREATNESS that we can all follow.Make it a GREAT week!

Monday Mindset – The Underdog Mentality 522 357 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset – The Underdog Mentality

Family!

Today is very exciting as we launch our NYNY Challenge across North America.

We have nearly 10,000 Fit Body clients looking for more accountability and nutritional support in order to regain their health & fitness in 2021 and beyond.

Given the occasion, I am also reminded of the things necessary for our challengers to be successful.

Simply put, it is the willingness to be coached and follow the game plan. But most importantly, to have a strong work ethic and possess an underdog mentality.

As fitness simple, but not easy.

This in mind and looking ahead to later this week, I am also reminded of a gentleman named Tom Brady who also executes the formula just mentioned above.

As you probably know, Tom is about to enter ANOTHER super bowl this coming Sunday with a completely new team and head coach.

He is one of the most coachable and successful guys in the NFL due to his adoption of an underdog mentality.

And no matter the outcome and due to his incredible career, he will be considered the GOAT (greatest of all time) and rightfully so.

But it wasn’t always this way for him…

You see, Tom was the backup QB for his Freshman team in high school. That’s right, the dude didn’t even start only the lowly Freshman squad!!

But then he grew and developed to start his last 2 seasons in high school in San Mateo California. And while he was very good at baseball too, he had his heart set on college football.

So he became a Michigan Wolverine (darn it being a Michigan State graduate) and ended up 6th on the depth chart when entering college. He was then backup QB for 2 seasons before getting his shot to start.

And if you can believe, his first pass in college was picked off by UCLA for a pick 6.

But he clearly overcame that adversity & stuck with it.

And finally, once he entered in the NFL which wasn’t a certain path for him, he infamously was picked 199 in the NFL draft.

That’s right 198 players were picked ahead of him.

And now, the GOAT is about to take another crack at a super bowl next week.

Why do I share this example?

Because talent can be overrated.

What truly counts is not the cards you were dealt, but how you play them.

So let me ask you…

Have you started 2021 with an underdog mentality? Are you playing scrappy? Are you willing to follow the playbook and take massive action even when it gets tough? Are you giving 1000% effort every single day like Tom Brady?

If not, my call to action today is STOP playing like a favorite.

Instead and if you want to achieve fitness, fat loss or any other type of success in life, play like the underdog just like Tom!

When you do, things will change.

Make it a great week and good luck Challengers!

Monday Mindset – Some perspective… The Pale Blue Dot 🌎 1024 526 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset – Some perspective… The Pale Blue Dot 🌎

Family!

After last week’s intense message with some calls to action. I wanted to take a step back this week and provide some perspective with the goal of making you think. 🤔

To give some back story, I am a big science and history nerd and can watch hours of the “Universe” or “History” channels. These topics fascinate me and suppose I have a deep intrigue of why we are here, where we come from and how it all came to be.

I am also enthralled with the study of human nature. We are a very interesting species and our natures can be very predictable when studies and as evidence, it repeats throughout the ages.

Anyway, world renown and the late astronomist Carl Sagan put together the video below called a “Pale Blue Dot”, referring to earth that I wanted to share with you today as I found some inspiration. 🌎

To me the video is extremely powerful as throughout all the craziness we are experiencing as a country and world, it puts things in proper perspective. And here are some take a ways and todays call to action to jump start your week!

“The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood, spilled by those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph, they could be the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturing. Our “imagined” self-importance. The delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe are challenged by this point of pale light.

To me it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another.  And to preserve and cherish, the pale blue dot. The only home we have ever known.”

Friends, in all the challenged that these last 12 months have brought, I wanted to provide today with some perspective.

Life is about challenge, it’s always been this way.

And while it can be frustrating, the truth is that are all doing our best. In fact as time progresses we will realize it’s not as bad or good as we think.

But only time will show this.

So to wrap things up, todays message is to accept the fact that if we want to live in a better world, it starts with you. It starts with me. 🤲

My call to action is to take care of yourself. Work out 3x per week. Move your body (which helps your body and mind). Sweat. Drink water. Sleep. Be kind. Help others. Smile.

And when you do, you create a foundation for being the best version of yourself.

As how can you help others and better our world, if you cannot help and take care of yourself?

You cannot.

So it starts with you and it starts with me.. 💪🔥

Head up and onward, we are in this together so make it an INCREDIBLE Monday!! ♥️

Monday Mindset – 4 action steps to help unite our community….. 1024 581 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset – 4 action steps to help unite our community…..

Family!

My good friend and fellow VP of Fit Body Boot Camp Matt went on a rant yesterday about all the craziness that’s continues to happen in our country. 🇺🇸

As if you watch the main stream media, you will know what I am talking about as it seems as if 2021 is on an even rockier start than 2020.

And while he is frustrated, just as most of us are….

His message included 4 calls to action to help unite our community which I received value from and trust you will as well so wanted to share..

And remember, head up and keep moving forward by being the positive change you want to see in our world!! ♥️

Committed to your success,

-Coach Bryce

Our politicians and mainstream news media is absolutely disgusting.

On both sides…

They are not leaders, they are public servants who are supposed to do what is right by the American people.

I believe most have good intent when they run but many ultimately become cowards and will do anything necessary to protect their position and their power.

Our country is broken. PERIOD.

The calls for UNITY are a joke at this point.

Unity is NOT tearing apart and attacking the beliefs of other who do not agree with you.

Unity is NOT silencing voices that are in opposition of yours.

Unity is NOT condoning actions when it serves you and then condemning it when it serves you.

Here is my call for Unity in our local communities.

  1. Ensure your house is in order and you exemplify what you expect of others first.
  2. Help support those in need in your local community.
  3. Help support local business.
  4. Stand up for what’s right.

When we UNITE as a community and help thy neighbor that has a trickle affect and maybe it will reach DC.

Let’s stop attacking each other, let’s stop trying to be right at all costs, let’s be good humans.

We are not each others enemy although our public servants and news media would like to make us believe that.

I don’t care what your beliefs are…

I care whether you’re a good human. I care about your character.

I also believe if you break the law you should go to jail/prison. Period. That includes our public servants. Actions have consequences.

Rant over…

Please be an agent for positive change in your community.

P.S. This rant is about all politicians and news outlets.

Monday Mindset – How to eat an elephant? (the secret to your 2021) 808 850 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset – How to eat an elephant? (the secret to your 2021)

Family!

I hope you enjoyed the holidays and your New Year Celebration with your family/friends whatever it may have been as you deserve it! 🎉🎉

Now here we are, 2020 is gone, all our problems have ended and life is smooth sailing from here..

We can now kick back our feet, and let the good times roll with absolutely nothing to worry about…..

WAH WAH WAH!!! 🙀

As much as I wish it were true, I am going to tell you something you already know, life is not that easy!

COVID and many of the other problems of 2020 are still here to be solved.💪

This is inclusive of the American obesity rate now closing in on 45% of the adults in our country which is the largest health crisis statistically by an enormity, that in my humble opinion the media should be spending most of its time on.

As obesity complicates every disease, adds incredible stress to nearly every existing health condition, and is the foundational health issue that is the catalyst to the kill rate of millions of Americans pre maturely every year via Heart Disease, Cancer, Stroke, COVID, Diabetes, etc., that has actually gotten worse this past year…

That said, while that’s the tough news, the good news is that there is light being you have the ability to help the cause! 💡💡

The New Year is here which represents a new chapter. In fact, you are stronger than the year before. You realize that health and wellness is everything and 2021 is going to be YOUR YEAR to get/stay fit! 🎉🎉

So while you are all fired up, where do you even start?  Yes, it can be a little overwhelming (or a lot) to eat the proverbial elephant.

But just as the saying goes, you eat an elephant one bite at a time.

So my question to you which is also the secret to your 2021…

Is what can you do for the month of January that is just 1 bite that will get you closer to your 2021 dream health level and body? 🥕

  • Could it be just to drink 2 more glasses of water per day?
  • How about starting with 1 more boot camp session per week?
  • What about ONLY tracking your food for the month, so you get a baseline on how much you consume?
  • Or how about reducing your fast food consumption just 1 meal per week?
  • What if you drank just 1 protein shake with a scoop of greens every day?

While the new chapter is here and full of excitement, I know the challenge of setting a giant goal can feel overwhelming..

So I am here to remind you that even the tallest building in the world [the Burj Khalifa in Dubai], started construction by removing 1 payload of dirt to create the foundation.

So my call to action for you today is to set just 1 health/fitness goal just through the end of January as your foundation. Make it manageable so you can hit it with some effort & focus, and let’s stack a few wins, and the momentum of January will set up your 2021 for the best one yet!! 🔥

And remember, if you need any help with your fitness goals, please reply to the message as we are here to help!!

Committed to your success,

-Coach Bryce
