Monday Mindset: 3 lessons from the last 7 years

Happy Monday!

I am still fired up from this weekend as we celebrated our locations anniversary as Yorba Linda turned 7, Mission Viejo 6 and San Marcos 4! That’s a combined 17 years of sweat sessions and fitter bodies!!!! 🎉🎉

Who would have known this little dream of creating a fitness community, to lift people up, to Inspire Fitness and Change Lives would have really turned into something special!!

Tatiana, myself and team are so GRATEUL FOR YOU for being part of it (whether you have been with us for 1 day, week, month, year or all 7 years!)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU & CONGRATS for such a fun party to celebrate YOU!!! 🏋️‍♀️🔥❤️

And in the spirit of providing  you some value and setting the tone for the week; here are 3 big lessons I have learned in the past 7 years of running our FBBC locations that can relate to you and your life!

  1. Running a business is way harder than I ever imagined.

The hours are crazy, 7 days and 70 hours/week consistently and problems that are seemingly never ending. I have had to acquire skills and level up in things I didn’t originally have any talent in (and still working on).  This is the life of any business owner or leader of any organization. Trust me, it’s not for the faint of heart! But once you accept how hard it truly is, then it becomes more manageable.

Your take away:

Whether business, running a family, or getting fit; its hard! In fact, anything of life of value is harder than we think going in. Accept it and expect the tough climb up the mountain!! And when you do, and if you take the first step, and keep building, it will get better and eventually you will find success at anything you put your mind to (whether it’s health, wealth, career or family).

  1. “If you want to make everybody happy, don’t be a leader. Sell ice cream.”

I found that quote by Steve Jobs, and thought it was so fitting because it’s the truth! As it turns out, the #1 skill I have had to acquire (and still acquiring every day) is Leadership. Which in full disclosure, I didn’t fully realize going in; as I thought my passion for fitness would be the focus. But the fact is, that when you run a business and develop a community, you must lead people. And when  you do,  you cannot make everyone happy. That’s impossible. So, you must do what’s right, in line with your core values, and what’s best for the common good!

Your take away:

In order to be a live a life worth living, you must be a leader; even if it’s just leading yourself. Leadership take guts, it takes courage, and it takes doing the thing that will allow you to win in the LONG term, and not the short term! So continue to make decisions (like being healthy, going to boot camp, drinking more water & eating clean); that are hard at first, but in the best interest of you and your family for the long term!

  1. Develop thick skin and avoid the Nay Sayers.

The truth is everyone has an opinion.  Many people will tell you why you cannot do this, why you cannot do that, and/or why this won’t be successful. Many of these people are close to you (and don’t have any bad intentions) just don’t want you to get hurt.

In fact, a dear family member asked me “Who in the world is going to pay for that?” after I explained the concept of group personal training before launching our first boot camp location.

One of our very first coaches was adamant that bringing in the “timer” would be the death of the business.

And my character has been attacked publicly a handful of times (from people I haven’t even met).  Unfortunately, this is all just part of the growth game and the price you must pay to be successful.

Your take away:

I am not alone in this category.  As it turns out, on your journey you will be criticized from people who might have your best intentions at heart, they just don’t want to see you lose!  Because of this, you have to develop thick skin and be intention about your goals in life. If you want to get fit, it doesn’t matter what else anyone says. Don’t give into the peer pressure of eating bad food, just to appease others (or make them feel better about themselves). That’s not worth the sacrifice!!! As long as you are not hurting anyone else; do what’s best for you so that you may achieve your dreams!
