[MM]: The Power of Saying No
Happy Monday!🙌
My better half coach Tatiana crushed a Spartan Training this past Saturday.💪
It’s inspiring to see her push herself!✨
She loves the Spartan challenge and shared with me the below message.
It was written by Joe, the CEO of the Spartan Races, on the power of saying no.
I wanted to pass along as I got value and know you will too. 🙂

Spartans!
I have a reputation for saying “no.”
- No to junk food
- No to alcohol
- No to staying up late
- No to missing workouts
- No to watching TV
- No to (most) social occasions
- But what gets lost, even to those who know me best, is how all of my “no’s” allow me to say a deeper “yes” to the things that are most meaningful to me.
I have learned that to be truly consistent in my habits and attitudes, I have to eliminate things that make staying committed to my purpose more difficult.
Hard choices, easy life; easy choices, hard life, as the saying goes.
What makes my choices clear is that I know my life’s purpose. It’s to use the power of Spartan training and racing to help people change their lives.
To help them become committed, resilient, mentally tough, healthier, and physically strong.
Not for vanity or to win medals – although winning medals is pretty cool – but to make daily life (paradoxically) much easier.
If you train yourself to manage difficult things, when the slings and arrows of daily life come your way you can handle them without breaking.
I’m heartened by the many inspirational stories of Spartans who have overcome incredible setbacks through the character and discipline developed and proven on our obstacle courses.
And while Spartan trains your body and mind to perform at our races, the true payoff comes when faced with real-life adversity.
When you’re faced with hardship but you know in your heart that you have what it takes to keep going.
So when I consistently say “no” to certain habits, I’m actually saying “yes”:
- Yes to a healthy body
- Yes to a clear mind
- Yes to all-day energy
- Yes to staying strong
- Yes to meeting challenges
- Yes to serving others
So I suggest saying “yes’ to putting something very hard on your calendar.💥
It will force you to find the “no’s” in your life that will drive the outcomes you want but haven’t been manifesting.
