Martin Luther King – procrastination is still the thief of time

I want to share one of my favorite quotes of all time with you.💥

“We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today.

We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now.

In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late.

Procrastination is still the thief of time.

Life often leaves us standing bare, naked, and dejected with a lost opportunity.

The tide in the affairs of men does not remain at flood – it ebbs.

We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is adamant to every plea and rushes on.

Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words, ‘Too late.’”

Martin Luther King, Jr

New York City, April 4th, 1967

Such powerful words!🔥

This is a reminder to NEVER take for granted the time that I have.⏰

It’s also a reminder that I need to be in the best physical condition that I can be.💪

I want to live without restriction.

I want to collect experiences and live to the fullest before it’s ‘too late’.

My wish for you is the same.🙌

With love,

-Coach Bryce

Leadership Lesson: Standards & Expectations 150 150 Bryce Henson

Leadership Lesson: Standards & Expectations

I once heard a podcast with John Maxwell and he was asked how you can identity the leader in the room?

His answer was simple:

“The person who has the highest standards & expectations……of him/herself.”

This is very true.

Strong leadership first requires a higher expectation of yourself, long before you can lead others.

Want to increase your leadership?

Raise your own personal standards and expectation of yourself. Then watch your leadership & life grow.

[MM] My Head Coach Jake got hitched! (3 Important Business Lessons)

Happy Monday Mindset!💥

On Saturday night, my family attended Head Coach Jake’s wedding in Carlsbad. He’s been a dear friend and a key leader in our Mission Viejo Fit Body location for the past 7+ years.❤️

It was an amazing event celebrating his marriage to his beautiful bride Sara after many years of dating.🎉

Throughout the incredible experience, I came away with 3 big takeaways you can apply to your fitness and business. 👇

  1. Structure & Planning. It was very apparent there was solid planning which made the event special. It was well rehearsed, their opening dances were on point, it was very personal, and executed nearly flawlessly due to the preparation. Creating a game plan is extremely important to your success as this directly ties to your fitness. Our coaches can help!
  2. Adjustments. A few adjustments had to be made mid-event by the wedding coordinator. But since the plan was already in place, it was easy to adjust with some flexibility. This is true in life & in your fitness journey. Sometimes unforeseen things come up, and you have to adjust which is just part of the fitness game.
  3. Personality & Culture. Jake and Sara did an incredible job of putting their own style and personality into the event. They both love country music which was a theme throughout. By adding their personal touch, it added so much culture to the ceremony and made the evening very special. This is why we work so hard here at Mission Viejo Fit Body to create strong relationships and culture with you and all our clients. This way, you feel a magical experience every workout and want to continue coming back for more fitness!

My friend, apply these principles to your life and fitness and watch them both grow!🎯

Success Leaves Clues: Nick Saban’s Leadership Final Recap 150 150 Bryce Henson

Success Leaves Clues: Nick Saban’s Leadership Final Recap

Nick Saban’s Leadership Final Recap

Team, I trust you have enjoyed the leadership lessons from one of the all time best leaders in sports history. Since repetition is the mother of skill, here is a recap of what we have learned over the last 11 weeks.

And remember, you are a leader in our organization so please apply these principles in your role to better your leadership skills. And most importantly, so we can continue to win as an organization which positively impacts the world as our desired outcome.

  1. There is no I in team but there is an I in win Coach Saban preaches individual responsibility.  His teams perform their best when individuals put the group first and do what is best for the team.
  2. Everything you do, you do to the team.  This speaks to personal responsibility and accountability.
  3. Get out of yourself and into the team.  Coach Saban wants his players to rise above their own selfishness and ambitions and dissolve themselves into the team.
  4. Don’t forget the fundamentals This can be lost in the rush to prepare.
  5. You can have no flickering lights The torch must be fully lit when passed from the upperclassmen to the underclassmen.
  6. Do not allow mistakes to go uncorrected.  You must evaluate the previous game and ensure mistakes are corrected for the upcoming game.
  7. Having skill is not having talent.  Brilliant!  Coach Saban says, “Skill alone does not equate to talent.  Talent is putting skills into productive use.”
  8. You must trust, not just believe.  Belief is trust that is firm.  Are you willing to put your success in someone else’s hands?
  9. Sometimes what is best for the individual is not what is best for the team.  Winning is not the only thing.  How you win matters just as much.
  10. Teams must take ownership of themselves and their personalities.  The most successful teams have a culture where all the members have a say.
  11. Teams that play together often end up lucky.  Coach Saban firmly believes in luck but you must put yourself in position to be lucky.  The luckiest teams are the teams that play well together.

(MM) The #1 secret to making your 2023 goals stick..

Happy Monday & New Year!🎉🎉🎉

Here we go 2023!

I just returned from a 9-day trip to Brazil for Christmas.🎄

Why?

Well, I made a promise to my wife Tatiana’s mom when I swept her off her island of Florianopolis in 2012 that I would return her for Christmas every year.❤️

So I was making good on that promise.

And as a big bonus..

It’s always great to be with family.

Which is also the focus of today’s message as we embark on a New Year!💥

As if you are anything like me, you are excited on the promise that 2023 will bring.

The better health, better fitness, better relationships, better version of you!👊

And while yes, that’s important.💯

I’ve found that the biggest goals I have accomplished in life have been tied around the service of others.

Ironically, human nature tends to disappoint ourselves the most.

On the contrary, when we wrap a self-serving goal or mission around helping others, we dig deeper and it more often sticks.

Fascinating, right?

So if you want to lose weight, get fit, launch a business, stop smoking/drinking, get healthy, be active, travel more or whatever it is this year for you…

I would strongly suggest tying your goal to something that will also benefit your loved ones.💪

Think to yourself, by achieving this goal that will better my life, how can this also help others?🤔

That becomes your focus!🧘🏻‍♂️

As when you do, you will find the strength to continue even when the going gets tough. Which it will.

That’s my hope for you in 2023 as it’s been fundamental in any success I have achieved to date which is what I want for you this year. ☀️

Happy New Year my friend, this year will be the best yet!🙏

Success Leaves Clues: Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #11 150 150 Bryce Henson

Success Leaves Clues: Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #11

This week is Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #11

Teams that play together often end up lucky. Coach Saban firmly believes in luck but you must put yourself in position to be lucky.  The luckiest teams are the teams that play well together.

Extremely well said.

The bottom line, team?

The harder we work, the luckier we get.

This is the universe’s way of rewarding massive action.

Success Leaves Clues: Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #10 150 150 Bryce Henson

Success Leaves Clues: Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #10

This week is Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #10

Teams must take ownership of themselves and their personalities.  The most successful teams have a culture where all the members have a say.

Team – this is why I teach leadership to empower YOUR leadership!

Humbling myself as your CEO, the success we have seen in the last 3+ years is not because of me. Instead, it’s because of YOU and your leadership development.

Situational authority is at the foundation of this philosophy.

Meaning many times “boots on the ground” teammates have the best insight to make decisions. And/or at the very least need to have space to provide feedback.

Therefore, as an organization, we need to continue promoting a feedback culture so everyone feels empowered to lead.

That’s my vision and focus and appreciate your massive help in continuing this culture!

(MM) The GOAT 🐐🐐

Happy Monday!

This last week was very bittersweet for my family as both the US and Brazil exited the World Cup. And specific to the Brazilian side, their biggest country rival Argentina just claimed the World Cup yesterday in dramatic fashion.🇦🇷

In many ways, a tough pill to swallow for my Brazilian wife Coach Tatiana and family as “futebol” is a religion in South America.💊

Although in fairness, it was special to watch greatness.🔥

As the 5 ‘7 magician Lionel Messi who grew up in Argentina and spent his adult life in Spain scored 3 goals in the match of his career to help his nation knock off France to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup.🏆

Simply amazing and with his storied career and an incredible amount of European championships already under his belt..

This will solidify him to most as the Greatest of All Time in the World Game aka The GOAT 🐐🐐

I don’t know about you, but while I wasn’t happy to see Argentina win, I personally respect and admire greatness.

Hats off to Messi and Argentina..👒

And that reminds me of you today.

In life, like in the World Cup, there will be some big moments that come up that your family & loved ones need you.🤗

Please be honest with yourself as there will be a need.

What’s even more urgent?

This day is likely coming quicker than you think!

My question to you is are you putting the reps and sets like Messi?

Are you preparing your mental and fitness to be able to support them?🤔

My friend, there will be a moment that arises when your family relies on you.💯

My hope is that, like Lionel Messi, you will have prepared so you can rise to the occasion and be the GOAT for your family.

The time is now to get prepared.

My team and I can help.💪

Success Leaves Clues: Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #9 150 150 Bryce Henson

Success Leaves Clues: Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #9

This week is Nick Saban’s Leadership Lesson #9

Sometimes what is best for the individual is not what is best for the team.

The goal of a leader is to align-self & team interests in as many opportunities as humanly possible.

However, sometimes it’s not.

When this happens, the dichotomy of leadership holds true for effective teams and leaders.

Yes, it’s incredibly challenging. But a leader must put the group’s interest in front of self-interest to ensure the team wins.

That goes for everyone in the organization as everyone in our organization leads.

(MM) The power of acceptance 150 150 Bryce Henson

(MM) The power of acceptance

Happy Monday!🙌

Last week I had a therapy session with my “mindset coach” Dr. Kevin. He is a brilliant therapist with a lot of life & clinical experience. 💥

I have been seeing him off and on since 2016.

He is also featured on this Wednesday’s Fit Life Orange County podcast episode as I just interviewed him so stay tuned!🥳

Anyway, I’m currently working through a personal issue right now that is out of my control.

Yes, I can influence the outcome to a certain extent. But in this specific situation, the complete result is not controlled by me.

The Issue?

It’s something I find important.🎯

The Bigger Issue?

I don’t control the outcome.💯

Dr. Kevin’s answer?

Acceptance.⚡️

Frankly, that’s not the answer I wanted to hear as it goes against many of my personal beliefs on my ability to positively affect the outcome with enough focused energy.

However, taking a step back, there’s alot of truth and wisdom in his coaching.

The dichotomy of life is knowing there are many things you can influence so you need to take action where you can. As candidly, too many people play the helpless victim.

But on the other side of the coin..

You also must understand in life that some things are completely out of your control so in these situations, you must practice acceptance.

Wisdom is not confusing the two.

Need a helping strategy?

This is the prayer I practice at my alcohol support group which is another way to ground the message. I trust it will help you as it’s done for me.👇

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”
