Monday Mindset: 3 lessons from the last 7 years

Happy Monday!

I am still fired up from this weekend as we celebrated our locations anniversary as Yorba Linda turned 7, Mission Viejo 6 and San Marcos 4! That’s a combined 17 years of sweat sessions and fitter bodies!!!! 🎉🎉

Who would have known this little dream of creating a fitness community, to lift people up, to Inspire Fitness and Change Lives would have really turned into something special!!

Tatiana, myself and team are so GRATEUL FOR YOU for being part of it (whether you have been with us for 1 day, week, month, year or all 7 years!)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU & CONGRATS for such a fun party to celebrate YOU!!! 🏋️‍♀️🔥❤️

And in the spirit of providing  you some value and setting the tone for the week; here are 3 big lessons I have learned in the past 7 years of running our FBBC locations that can relate to you and your life!

  1. Running a business is way harder than I ever imagined.

The hours are crazy, 7 days and 70 hours/week consistently and problems that are seemingly never ending. I have had to acquire skills and level up in things I didn’t originally have any talent in (and still working on).  This is the life of any business owner or leader of any organization. Trust me, it’s not for the faint of heart! But once you accept how hard it truly is, then it becomes more manageable.

Your take away:

Whether business, running a family, or getting fit; its hard! In fact, anything of life of value is harder than we think going in. Accept it and expect the tough climb up the mountain!! And when you do, and if you take the first step, and keep building, it will get better and eventually you will find success at anything you put your mind to (whether it’s health, wealth, career or family).

  1. “If you want to make everybody happy, don’t be a leader. Sell ice cream.”

I found that quote by Steve Jobs, and thought it was so fitting because it’s the truth! As it turns out, the #1 skill I have had to acquire (and still acquiring every day) is Leadership. Which in full disclosure, I didn’t fully realize going in; as I thought my passion for fitness would be the focus. But the fact is, that when you run a business and develop a community, you must lead people. And when  you do,  you cannot make everyone happy. That’s impossible. So, you must do what’s right, in line with your core values, and what’s best for the common good!

Your take away:

In order to be a live a life worth living, you must be a leader; even if it’s just leading yourself. Leadership take guts, it takes courage, and it takes doing the thing that will allow you to win in the LONG term, and not the short term! So continue to make decisions (like being healthy, going to boot camp, drinking more water & eating clean); that are hard at first, but in the best interest of you and your family for the long term!

  1. Develop thick skin and avoid the Nay Sayers.

The truth is everyone has an opinion.  Many people will tell you why you cannot do this, why you cannot do that, and/or why this won’t be successful. Many of these people are close to you (and don’t have any bad intentions) just don’t want you to get hurt.

In fact, a dear family member asked me “Who in the world is going to pay for that?” after I explained the concept of group personal training before launching our first boot camp location.

One of our very first coaches was adamant that bringing in the “timer” would be the death of the business.

And my character has been attacked publicly a handful of times (from people I haven’t even met).  Unfortunately, this is all just part of the growth game and the price you must pay to be successful.

Your take away:

I am not alone in this category.  As it turns out, on your journey you will be criticized from people who might have your best intentions at heart, they just don’t want to see you lose!  Because of this, you have to develop thick skin and be intention about your goals in life. If you want to get fit, it doesn’t matter what else anyone says. Don’t give into the peer pressure of eating bad food, just to appease others (or make them feel better about themselves). That’s not worth the sacrifice!!! As long as you are not hurting anyone else; do what’s best for you so that you may achieve your dreams!

Monday Mindset: Change Change Change!! 532 313 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: Change Change Change!!

Happy Monday and hope you had an incredible Thanksgiving! I cannot believe it’s December already which means our year is ending quickly and a New Year is on the horizon!

Aside from that, I just finished the book “Shut Up and Listen” by Tilman Fertitta and got a lot from the book so wanted to share.

Before I do, if you never heard of Tilman…he is a very blunt, self-made Billionaire from Houston, Texas. He owns the NBA’s Houston Rockets, the Golden Nugget (Casino & Resort), has a TV show called “Billionaire Buyer” on CNBC, Landry’s, Inc which is a holding company that that owns many restaurants that include Mastro’s Steakhouse, Morton’s Steakhouse, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and many more.

Needless to say, he knows a lot about leadership, business, and specifically the “hospitality business” which he emphatically proclaims that all his businesses fall under (which I also believe is our primary business here at Fit Body Boot Camp and something we will continue to instill in our team & clients).

Because he is so knowledgeable, it’s hard to lock onto 1 specific concept in the book; but one of the biggest ones that he teaches and being a fundamental reason for his success; is the ability to “CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE.”

While he emphatically agrees that human nature instinctively resists the process of change; but at our core we all desire it and is essential for success.  Furthermore, the people and organizations who can implement change the quickest (especially in our fast paced and current day and age; are the winners in life).

In the book, he dives deep and cites many examples of consistently updating menus, restaurant designs, logos, switching out games, uniform & concept changes, etc. which has allowed him and his companies to stay ahead of the curve and achieve success!

So that is today’s message which is the concept of “embracing change” as in life, it’s the only constant. Additionally, this comes at a great timing where we are in the process of changing years, changing designs, adding teammates and evolving/creating/changing our Nutrition Coaching program (which is set to launch in 2020).

Lots of change!!!!

As such, we have 2 choices:  1) to resist change and hold on for dear life or 2) to embrace it, and using it as an opportunity to get better, learn and grow!

Certainly easier said than done, but call to action is to embrace it, and use it as an opportunity to get learn and grow!!

This is also why one of our updated core values is “Drive Change”  so we can remind ourselves, team and clients the true power behind that mindsight!!Head up, onward, and let’s make the most of our last month of 2019, before we change into a New Year and a New You!!

Monday Mindset: Thanksgiving

Happy Monday!

This coming Thursday is my favorite holiday (Thanksgiving), so know it’s going to be a great week!

As such, it  serves as a great reminder to take a step back, smell the roses, and be grateful for the blessings, which in our fast-paced lives, I know can be very difficult.

As a I take a second….here are a few things that come to mind in my life.

I am thankful for all our incredible challengers who finished out our 10 Week Fall Challenge. What an accomplishment! We are tallying the results over the coming week, but know that as an FBBC network, we have already lost nearly 90,000 lbs. and the total will probably break 100,000 lbs. combined when all the results are calculated! That’s a lot of health and fitness to be thankful for!!!

I am thankful for our Coach Eddie in San Marcos who finished his “12-month tour of duty” at San Marcos FBBC. He was (and still is) and incredible fire breathing dragon coach, and now is off to his next tour of duty which is protecting all our freedom in the US military!

I am thankful for our Coach Erik who is celebrating his 4-year anniversary with Team Henson FBBC. As he has coached and changed many lives in Mission Viejo, San Marcos and with our Michigan location; and even in Yorba Linda (on the back end) as he provided such input and support to our other leaders. So, no matter what location you attend, he has touched you.

I am thankful for our facility upgrades that Tatiana has so worked so diligently on the back end to create a better environment and training atmosphere for all our clients. Managing timelines, contractors, issues, landlords, all while running a business is very tough and no one does it better!

I am thankful for a team of fired up coaches and admins who make such a big impact on a daily basis and give their all which is so admirable. Seriously, so thankful!!!

I am thankful for my mother Donna (as I hit the proverbial parent lottery) with her. All the sacrifices she made to better our lives, in addition to supporting our business and helping our clients get healthy and fit!

And I am thankful for YOU, for investing in your health, wellness and fitness. As it’s not easy to keep that a big focus with everything going in our busy lives (work, school, kids, etc.). So, acknowledge you for the effort you put in and for trusting your health and fitness with our team!!

Looking ahead, let’s make it a GREAT start to the week, and come get your Turkey/Thanksgiving work out as we are open (limited sessions) but going to have a lot of fun! And call to action today is to take a moment to show gratitude and thanks for all the blessings in your life! I promise, you will feel much better.

With  Gratitude,

-Coach Bryce

Monday Mindset: A BIG Appreciation!! 1024 459 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: A BIG Appreciation!!

Happy Monday!

We just wrapped up client appreciation week last week, so wanted to but a bow on it! It was a lot of fun dressing up, giving away supplements and fit aids, and raffling off prizes with many winners!

Know that we appreciate you every single day of every single week, but wanted to carve out a specific period of time to highlight how much we love and appreciate you!

Thank you for trusting us with your health and fitness. Thank you for being vulnerable enough to come to boot camp, to put yourself in uncomfortable situations in order to get better, and for being such a vital part of our fit family!

We are eternally grateful and hope you know and feel that (not only during client appreciation week), but every day!

In closing, we hope that you feel appreciated and pay it forward by spreading your appreciation to your family, friends and love ones!  As in my humble estimation, that’s the best state of mind to live your life!

In fact, I would encourage you to send a note to 3 one of your loved ones today, letting them know much you are grateful for them!

I know it will brighten up their day (and yours too).

With love and gratitude,

-Bryce (and all of Team Henson)

2020 logo
2020 Predictions 1024 545 Bryce Henson

2020 Predictions

What trends can we expect to see in the fitness space in 2020?

Boutique fitness will still trend upwards in 2020 as the fitness industry continues to boom.

Large group training will continue its upward ascent and will be the center piece in the coming decade. Shorter-term, for as long as the economy continues to perform, smaller group training will also rise in popularity.

Recovery fitness will also continue its rise as an important niche in the fitness industry boom. Overtraining is real; so flexibility, supplementation, stretch, cryotherapy, and float therapy (among other types of recovery fitness) will continue to trend upwards.

However, when the pending economic correction occurs which many economic experts are talking about, large group (which is the most affordable niche of personal training) will continue to be a major staple of industry growth.

How do you expect FBBC’s consumer habits to shift?

Supplementation will be a big focus of 2020 as recovery is paramount to training success.  And as studies continue to show the benefits and results from nutrition; the 2020 release of our nutrition coaching program via the FBBC philosophy of direct macro counting, will continue to be a focus for consumers as results drive consumer retention.

How will technology continue to make an impact in the fitness industry?

Technology isn’t going anywhere, and those who embrace it will continue to win. Although the real success will occur when companies are able to personalize the technology (as for every process/piece of technology there is a PERSON at the other end of it – aka the consumer). So the companies who can utilize technology while incorporating a “personal” feel towards the consumer, will win.

Additionally, in the coming 3-5 years, Artificial Intelligence will be a catalyst for market disruption where Fit Body Boot Camp will be on the leading edge with its development of ARTI (our proprietary AI, currently in development).

What type of growth is FBBC expecting to see in 2020?

Fit Body Boot Camp will continue its upward trend of gaining market share in the growing fitness industry. 2019 was a solid year of internal restructuring and laying the foundation for support of ownership and growth, due to growing pains of our previous years of rapid growth. We literally reinvested millions in infrastructure, technology, talent acquisition and in supplementation, so that 2020 will be an explosive year of sustainable growth!

Monday Mindset: Brick by Brick….. 7 years 1024 536 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: Brick by Brick….. 7 years

Happy Monday!

First and foremost, Happy Veterans Day & Client Appreciation Week!

In addition to the 2 things to remember & celebrate; I am feeling grateful today for YOU, our incredible team of coaches, and Fit Family community/family. This is in reflection of the fact that 7 years ago last Tuesday, we opened our first Fit Body Boot Camp location in Yorba Linda on November 5, 2012!!

It was a freezing cold morning; the warehouse lighting was so dim. Turns out, it wasn’t properly installed and I found out when getting the keys a couple weeks before, but didn’t have the money to fix..

I had just invested every penny I had to my name in the business including signing a personal guarantee to cover the franchise system buy in/royalties, the building lease/rent (3 months + security deposit), the mats (if you can believe the most expensive piece of equipment in the whole facility), paint, software, and the list goes on.. etc.

My beautiful wife Tatiana just moved to California the week prior (from Brazil) so her English was very rusty. And at the time, she was extremely shy.

We had 4 walls with some paint, mats, no equipment, and about 10 total people who showed up (for all the 7 sessions we had listed).

**That included Tatiana, my sister Emma, my dear friend Leslie Freeman (who still comes till this day), and myself as the coach which is an average a WHOPPING  ½ client per session!!

We lacked a lot and as I reflect, had NO IDEA what I was doing… but Tatiana and I did have a TON OF HEART AND PASSION to INSPIRE FITNESS AND CHANGE LIVES EVERY DAY!!

For the first month, we did pushups, sit ups, burpees, (all body weight) as we didn’t have enough money for any other equipment.

And I also didn’t realize at that moment, that I was about to embark on the most challenging effort of my life (running a fitness business in our great state of California).

That I was also going to have to develop skill sets that I definitely did not have (being I was just learning how to be a fitness professional) and was not a Leader, Marketer, Bookkeeper, Payroll Expert, Janitor, Accountant,  IT Consultant, Therapist, Professional Negotiator, City Contractor, Building Architect, or Computer Programmer but would have to develop skills in all these areas..

And the reality of the situation was,  that it would be 100X harder than I anticipated (& still is)!!!

In fact, being really vulnerable, I would be lying to you if I didn’t contemplate quitting on numerous occasions within the first 6 months (after the buzz wore off and my body nearly collapsed from coaching every session every week until that point) while having a full time job “on the side” to pay our bills.

But I took the first step…

And with support from Tatiana (who I owe much of my outward success to);  we attracted a couple clients, that turned into a few more, which turned into a few more (including our rad Coach Jenn being one of our firsts as well) and out of nothing, something grew.

And fast forward 7 years later as I am a little teary-eyed writing this, Tatiana and I are SO GRATEFUL for the team we have been lucky enough to attract, the clients who have turned into family, the deep bonds and friendships we have made, and lives we have changed in the process!!  SO GRATEFUL!!

Seriously, thank you so much for being on this journey with us!!!

And while I finish my message today and nostalgic in the moment, the lesson here is that there are no shortcuts, no “easy path”, no strategy that works without the effort. It takes time, focused energy and a “brick by brick” mentality of arduous effort to achieve anything of value in life.

And as my mother Donna always told me which rings true for you What is hard to endure, is sweet to recall.” #TRUTH

So my message today is TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP, keep coming to session even when you don’t want to, keep drinking more water, keep putting down that sugar, and keep picking up more lean protein and veggies.

The results might be slower than you desire, but if you keep attacking every day with consistent effort and energy, the results will come – 100% guaranteed!

And I beg of you…. (even if not for you), at the very least keep being the role model for your family and children that they deserve!!  People are counting on you!!

As the reality is being committed to your health and fitness are NOT easy. IN fact, it’s harder than you think. But like this fitness business and community we started 7 short years ago, IT and YOU are totally worth it!!!

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our Fit Family!!!

**We are excited to celebrate collectively are 3 camps anniversary next month (being they are so close in proximity) on December 7 so stay tuned for a fun party to CELEBRATE YOU (the reason for FBBC’s success)!!!

Monday Mindset: You cannot do it alone!! 1024 681 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: You cannot do it alone!!

Happy Monday!

I had a busy weekend with some work projects and then celebrated my godson Landon’s 3rd birthday with a party and cake on Saturday afternoon. I cannot believe he is already 3! Time flies!!

Aside from that, we had a solid crew from each of our 3 locations participate in the “Tough Mudder” Race in Lake Elsinore.

The race consisted of 10 miles & 25 obstacles from which  the team got muddy, dove in a pool with ice, got shocked & bruised, pushed through many army crawls, climbed high walls & cargo nets, to name a few…

I received the download from Coach Tatiana, Erik and Jake;  and it was incredibly inspiring hearing how everyone banded together, stayed together throughout the race, and a pushed each other through the finish!

No doubt, confidence was built, friendships were made & deepened, trust was formed, and fitness limits were tested and broken!

In reflection, I cannot tell you how inspired I am to surround myself with people who come together,  strive to grow, push their limits, conquer their fears, and continuously break barriers together!

And that’s the message today…..

As humans, alone we are weak, but together we are strong!

In this race, your fitness level, or in any aspect of life, no one who really achieves anything truly great, does it alone. Rather, true success comes from surrounding yourself with others who want to grow, add value, help others and are open to being helped!

I am super inspired and proud of all who participated, to you, and to our entire Fit Family for being such a special group of selfless people!!  No doubt, it’s our community that makes us great as we are stronger together!!!

Monday Mindset: You can have ANYTHING, just NOT EVERYTHING! 469 461 Bryce Henson

Monday Mindset: You can have ANYTHING, just NOT EVERYTHING!

Happy Monday!!

Halloween is almost here which is always fun, so ensure to wear your costumes to work out on Thursday!!

Aside from that highlight and to fill you in, I try and read/listen to about a book a week (fitness, nutrition, business, leadership) to help me be a better leader for my team and clients. I am in the middle of re-reading of “Crushing It” by Gary Vaynerchuk and thought of you!

The book is about building a business and personal brand, and in it, Gary made a comment that really hit me.

“You can have ANYTHING, just NOT EVERYTHING” so you must choose wisely.

This is such a simple concept, but mind blowing and a great mental reframe, so wanted to share so you get value too!

As an example, and how this relates to you….

You eat cake for breakfast, sugar in large quantities, alcohol every day, and virtually no veggies or lean proteins.

But if you do this, you will sacrifice being healthy, lean, fit and most likely long-term happiness.

Another example…

You can build a BILLION-dollar business from scratch, with all the fame and fortune that comes with it….

But if you do, chances are you will have to sacrifice/spend 50+ years of working 80-hour work weeks, forgoing leisure, family time and relaxation (at least for the first 3 decades of the journey).

One more…

You can wake up early, get to boot camp 4x per week, eat lean proteins, veggies, and lots of hydration to get the health, fitness and body of your dreams….

But if you do, chances are you will have to sacrifice being lazy, going to bed late, eating any sugary or sweet foods that taste great in high quantities, and ultimately forgoing the immediate gratifications.

There are just 3 little examples, but they carry over to any aspect of life, and by now, you get the point!

The liberating feeling and call to action is that you can have ANYTHING YOU WANT if you put your mind and full dedication to it. Just know there is a price/sacrifice for everything.

As ultimately……

“You can have ANYTHING, just not EVERYTHING” so you must choose wisely.

Stronger Together: Fit Body Boot Camp Support Helps Drive Growth for Franchisees and the Brand

Delivering on our core values – drive change, exceed expectations – is key to the success of our clients, and it’s also key to helping our franchisees reach their goals. Our ongoing support enables Fit Body Boot Camp franchisees to have a greater impact on clients’ lives, which, in turn, has a greater impact on
franchise owners’ income. Along with the abundant marketing support we provide, we offer year-round training opportunities because a team trained at a higher level produces at a higher level.

Initial Support Starts Franchisees off on the Right Foot
When you sign on to be a part of the Fit Body Boot Camp team, one of the first action steps your onboarding specialist will assist you with is site selection for your Fit Body Boot Camp gym in your thoroughly researched market. You and the specialist will work with a local real estate broker to view sites with high visibility in areas with the right demographics for Fit Body Boot Camp.

Once the lease is signed, the team at Fit Body Boot Camp headquarters creates your website and social media sites, which will be helpful for developing awareness in your market.

You will also begin working with your Coaching and Profitability (CAP) coach, who serves on a team of six business coaches. The CAP Department is made up primarily of other Fit Body Boot Camp owners, who have been with the brand four or more years and understand the challenges and rewards of owning a fitness franchise. The coach assigned to you will serve as your mentor leading up to your gym opening and for the duration of your Fit Body Boot Camp franchise ownership.

The CAP team also leads the in-person FBBC University training sessions at our headquarters in Chino Hills, California, where you will learn more about the Fit Body Boot Camp franchise model. Resources for your online training can be found on the FBBC University intranet site. FBBC University sessions are held four times a year for new and existing owners.

New franchisees are introduced to Fitness Marketer Lab, our partner in digital marketing and
advertising. Fitness Marketer Lab and your CAP coach will launch your grand opening program 12 weeks
before you open the doors to your gym to help you generate client leads and convert them into paying
clients. This comprehensive marketing program features a multi-channel approach to digital marketing,
including a combination of traditional local PR support and media outreach, promotional giveaways, e-
mail campaigns and social media ads.

Ongoing Support Drives Change, Exceeds Expectations for All

Because reaching your goals as a fitness franchise owner is important to us, we provide ongoing support after you open the doors of your Fit Body Boot Camp gym. For example, we know that attracting new clients and keeping existing clients engaged with the workouts and the brand is essential to membership growth and retention. Fit Body Boot Camp developed three group challenges, which are held at different times of the year when people are thinking about their health – the beginning of the year, summer and fall – to attract and inspire new and existing clients. We provide everything you need to run the group challenges, including all the marketing and promotional assets for franchisees, as well as food lists, meal plans, journals and more to share with your clients.

Among the post-opening support we offer are opportunities for continuous training to help you and your team deliver the best, most effective Fit Body Boot Camp experience to your clients. Training opportunities include:

  • World Conference – Fit Body Boot Camp’s annual two-day convention in April features training
for owners, facility leaders, coaches and administrators, along with presentations on motivation,
team building, developing culture and more by inspirational entrepreneurial leaders in the
fitness industry. Breakout sessions provide additional insight into a variety of aspects of running
your gym, including coaching, operations, programming and more.
  •  Domination Day – This full day of training is hosted by Fit Body Boot Camp’s Vice President of
Product and Client Experience Matt Wilber, who is the brand’s most financially successful
franchisee. On Domination Day, which is held the day before World Conference, Matt shares the
best practices he utilized to get where he is and how he remains there.
  •  Mastermind – This additional, high-end training opportunity is ideal for owners who want to
become multi-unit franchisees. Held for two intensive days, three times a year, it includes
speakers, work sessions and sharing best practices. You’re also provided an accountability coach
and access to a private Facebook group for Mastermind franchisees.

We Grow with our Franchise Owners

A rising tide lifts all ships. The more we support our franchisees, the more clients they attract. Those clients then get better results and preach about their experience to friends and family. This strengthens the Fit Body Boot Camp brand on both a local and national level, which allows each location to make more income and impact and allows the franchisee to expand into more territories. This is how we grow together.

To learn more about the franchise opportunity with Fit Body Boot Camp, fill out our franchise form at fbbcfranchise.com or call (888) 638-3222.

WARNING: Excitement AND Challenge!! 635 492 Bryce Henson

WARNING: Excitement AND Challenge!!

Happy Monday!
I cannot believe mid-October is already here and we are entering week 5 of our Fall Challenge!
This also marks both an exciting and challenging time in the fitness journey!!
It is exciting as being over a month in, results are just starting to show for those who have been
committed to getting to boot camp, following the meal plan, counting macros, drinking more
water and getting more sleep!

On the flip side, it starts a challenging aspect of the journey, as you will often see people
(sometimes close family, friends, or coworkers) beginning to be critical of your success.
Comments like “Jeez, are you still going to that boot camp”, “live a little, have some desert”, “it
seems like your obsessed with this fitness thing, relax.” “Come on, take a cheat day, your being
too intense.” “Get over yourself already.”

Not all, but many of these comments can come from people who actually love you.
But the reality is that your success & commitment, shines a spotlight in their lack of effort. And
instead of stepping up their game, people can default to being critical, so they point the
proverbial spotlight off them and onto you (even if it’s done subconsciously and not
intentional/maliciously).

So, this in mind when faced against the criticism (which will happen as your body changes and
you start achieving success). You must keep the excitement, keep the momentum and keep
progressing!!

Remember that this is about YOU and the success you deserve for the actions you take!
And when you hear comments like this, (since you are now warned), you will be able to handle
the situation much better by smiling, thanking them, brushing it off and continuing on your
journey knowing you are the light that will empower yourself, family and others!!!
