Monday Mindset: A BIG Appreciation!!

Happy Monday!

We just wrapped up client appreciation week last week, so wanted to but a bow on it! It was a lot of fun dressing up, giving away supplements and fit aids, and raffling off prizes with many winners!

Know that we appreciate you every single day of every single week, but wanted to carve out a specific period of time to highlight how much we love and appreciate you!

Thank you for trusting us with your health and fitness. Thank you for being vulnerable enough to come to boot camp, to put yourself in uncomfortable situations in order to get better, and for being such a vital part of our fit family!

We are eternally grateful and hope you know and feel that (not only during client appreciation week), but every day!

In closing, we hope that you feel appreciated and pay it forward by spreading your appreciation to your family, friends and love ones!  As in my humble estimation, that’s the best state of mind to live your life!

In fact, I would encourage you to send a note to 3 one of your loved ones today, letting them know much you are grateful for them!

I know it will brighten up their day (and yours too).

With love and gratitude,

Happy Monday!

First and foremost, Happy Veterans Day & Client Appreciation Week!

In addition to the 2 things to remember & celebrate; I am feeling grateful today for YOU, our incredible team of coaches, and Fit Family community/family. This is in reflection of the fact that 7 years ago last Tuesday, we opened our first Fit Body Boot Camp location in Yorba Linda on November 5, 2012!!

It was a freezing cold morning; the warehouse lighting was so dim. Turns out, it wasn’t properly installed and I found out when getting the keys a couple weeks before, but didn’t have the money to fix..

I had just invested every penny I had to my name in the business including signing a personal guarantee to cover the franchise system buy in/royalties, the building lease/rent (3 months + security deposit), the mats (if you can believe the most expensive piece of equipment in the whole facility), paint, software, and the list goes on.. etc.

My beautiful wife Tatiana just moved to California the week prior (from Brazil) so her English was very rusty. And at the time, she was extremely shy.

We had 4 walls with some paint, mats, no equipment, and about 10 total people who showed up (for all the 7 sessions we had listed).

**That included Tatiana, my sister Emma, my dear friend Leslie Freeman (who still comes till this day), and myself as the coach which is an average a WHOPPING  ½ client per session!!

We lacked a lot and as I reflect, had NO IDEA what I was doing… but Tatiana and I did have a TON OF HEART AND PASSION to INSPIRE FITNESS AND CHANGE LIVES EVERY DAY!!

For the first month, we did pushups, sit ups, burpees, (all body weight) as we didn’t have enough money for any other equipment.

And I also didn’t realize at that moment, that I was about to embark on the most challenging effort of my life (running a fitness business in our great state of California).

That I was also going to have to develop skill sets that I definitely did not have (being I was just learning how to be a fitness professional) and was not a Leader, Marketer, Bookkeeper, Payroll Expert, Janitor, Accountant,  IT Consultant, Therapist, Professional Negotiator, City Contractor, Building Architect, or Computer Programmer but would have to develop skills in all these areas..

And the reality of the situation was,  that it would be 100X harder than I anticipated (& still is)!!!

In fact, being really vulnerable, I would be lying to you if I didn’t contemplate quitting on numerous occasions within the first 6 months (after the buzz wore off and my body nearly collapsed from coaching every session every week until that point) while having a full time job “on the side” to pay our bills.

But I took the first step…

And with support from Tatiana (who I owe much of my outward success to);  we attracted a couple clients, that turned into a few more, which turned into a few more (including our rad Coach Jenn being one of our firsts as well) and out of nothing, something grew.

And fast forward 7 years later as I am a little teary-eyed writing this, Tatiana and I are SO GRATEFUL for the team we have been lucky enough to attract, the clients who have turned into family, the deep bonds and friendships we have made, and lives we have changed in the process!!  SO GRATEFUL!!

Seriously, thank you so much for being on this journey with us!!!

And while I finish my message today and nostalgic in the moment, the lesson here is that there are no shortcuts, no “easy path”, no strategy that works without the effort. It takes time, focused energy and a “brick by brick” mentality of arduous effort to achieve anything of value in life.

And as my mother Donna always told me which rings true for you What is hard to endure, is sweet to recall.” #TRUTH

So my message today is TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP, keep coming to session even when you don’t want to, keep drinking more water, keep putting down that sugar, and keep picking up more lean protein and veggies.

The results might be slower than you desire, but if you keep attacking every day with consistent effort and energy, the results will come – 100% guaranteed!

And I beg of you…. (even if not for you), at the very least keep being the role model for your family and children that they deserve!!  People are counting on you!!

As the reality is being committed to your health and fitness are NOT easy. IN fact, it’s harder than you think. But like this fitness business and community we started 7 short years ago, IT and YOU are totally worth it!!!

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our Fit Family!!!

**We are excited to celebrate collectively are 3 camps anniversary next month (being they are so close in proximity) on December 7 so stay tuned for a fun party to CELEBRATE YOU (the reason for FBBC’s success)!!!

Monday Mindset: You cannot do it alone!!

Happy Monday!

I had a busy weekend with some work projects and then celebrated my godson Landon’s 3rd birthday with a party and cake on Saturday afternoon. I cannot believe he is already 3! Time flies!!

Aside from that, we had a solid crew from each of our 3 locations participate in the “Tough Mudder” Race in Lake Elsinore.

The race consisted of 10 miles & 25 obstacles from which  the team got muddy, dove in a pool with ice, got shocked & bruised, pushed through many army crawls, climbed high walls & cargo nets, to name a few…

I received the download from Coach Tatiana, Erik and Jake;  and it was incredibly inspiring hearing how everyone banded together, stayed together throughout the race, and a pushed each other through the finish!

No doubt, confidence was built, friendships were made & deepened, trust was formed, and fitness limits were tested and broken!

In reflection, I cannot tell you how inspired I am to surround myself with people who come together,  strive to grow, push their limits, conquer their fears, and continuously break barriers together!

And that’s the message today…..

As humans, alone we are weak, but together we are strong!

In this race, your fitness level, or in any aspect of life, no one who really achieves anything truly great, does it alone. Rather, true success comes from surrounding yourself with others who want to grow, add value, help others and are open to being helped!

I am super inspired and proud of all who participated, to you, and to our entire Fit Family for being such a special group of selfless people!!  No doubt, it’s our community that makes us great as we are stronger together!!!

Monday Mindset: You can have ANYTHING, just NOT EVERYTHING!

Happy Monday!!

Halloween is almost here which is always fun, so ensure to wear your costumes to work out on Thursday!!

Aside from that highlight and to fill you in, I try and read/listen to about a book a week (fitness, nutrition, business, leadership) to help me be a better leader for my team and clients. I am in the middle of re-reading of “Crushing It” by Gary Vaynerchuk and thought of you!

The book is about building a business and personal brand, and in it, Gary made a comment that really hit me.

“You can have ANYTHING, just NOT EVERYTHING” so you must choose wisely.

This is such a simple concept, but mind blowing and a great mental reframe, so wanted to share so you get value too!

As an example, and how this relates to you….

You eat cake for breakfast, sugar in large quantities, alcohol every day, and virtually no veggies or lean proteins.

But if you do this, you will sacrifice being healthy, lean, fit and most likely long-term happiness.

Another example…

You can build a BILLION-dollar business from scratch, with all the fame and fortune that comes with it….

But if you do, chances are you will have to sacrifice/spend 50+ years of working 80-hour work weeks, forgoing leisure, family time and relaxation (at least for the first 3 decades of the journey).

One more…

You can wake up early, get to boot camp 4x per week, eat lean proteins, veggies, and lots of hydration to get the health, fitness and body of your dreams….

But if you do, chances are you will have to sacrifice being lazy, going to bed late, eating any sugary or sweet foods that taste great in high quantities, and ultimately forgoing the immediate gratifications.

There are just 3 little examples, but they carry over to any aspect of life, and by now, you get the point!

The liberating feeling and call to action is that you can have ANYTHING YOU WANT if you put your mind and full dedication to it. Just know there is a price/sacrifice for everything.

As ultimately……

“You can have ANYTHING, just not EVERYTHING” so you must choose wisely.

WARNING: Excitement AND Challenge!!

Happy Monday!
I cannot believe mid-October is already here and we are entering week 5 of our Fall Challenge!
This also marks both an exciting and challenging time in the fitness journey!!
It is exciting as being over a month in, results are just starting to show for those who have been
committed to getting to boot camp, following the meal plan, counting macros, drinking more
water and getting more sleep!

On the flip side, it starts a challenging aspect of the journey, as you will often see people
(sometimes close family, friends, or coworkers) beginning to be critical of your success.
Comments like “Jeez, are you still going to that boot camp”, “live a little, have some desert”, “it
seems like your obsessed with this fitness thing, relax.” “Come on, take a cheat day, your being
too intense.” “Get over yourself already.”

Not all, but many of these comments can come from people who actually love you.
But the reality is that your success & commitment, shines a spotlight in their lack of effort. And
instead of stepping up their game, people can default to being critical, so they point the
proverbial spotlight off them and onto you (even if it’s done subconsciously and not
intentional/maliciously).

So, this in mind when faced against the criticism (which will happen as your body changes and
you start achieving success). You must keep the excitement, keep the momentum and keep
progressing!!

Remember that this is about YOU and the success you deserve for the actions you take!
And when you hear comments like this, (since you are now warned), you will be able to handle
the situation much better by smiling, thanking them, brushing it off and continuing on your
journey knowing you are the light that will empower yourself, family and others!!!
